Hybrid Striped Bass

Hybrid striped bass, often called 'hybrids' or 'wipers,' offer exciting fishing action near Petronila. Lake Corpus Christi is stocked with these hard-fighting fish, providing anglers with a unique freshwater experience. Unlike their striped bass cousins, hybrids rarely reproduce naturally in the lake, so stocking efforts are essential to maintaining the population. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, as they school up and actively feed. Look for them near main lake points, humps, and along the dam. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits and topwater lures can be effective. A local tip: Watch for surface feeding activity, as hybrids will often chase shad to the surface. These fish are known for their aggressive strikes and powerful runs, so be sure to use strong tackle. Public boat ramps provide access to the lake, but be mindful of wind conditions, as the lake can get choppy.
