Huntington Bay isn't typically the first place that comes to mind for King Mackerel, but these powerful fish do make appearances, offering a thrilling experience for anglers willing to put in the effort. The key is understanding their migratory patterns. Late summer and early fall (August-October) are your best bet, as Kings follow baitfish schools moving through Long Island Sound. Focus your efforts around structure like the sunken barges near the entrance to the bay, or further out towards deeper water. Trolling with live bunker or spoons is effective, and wire leaders are a must! Be mindful of boat traffic, especially on weekends. A good access point is the Huntington Town Boat Ramp, but get there early as it gets crowded. Keep an eye on water temperature reports; Kings prefer warmer waters, so a sudden cool down can push them further south.
