Lake Trout

Lake Trout are a mainstay of the Lake Michigan fishery near Kenosha, offering year-round opportunities for anglers. These cold-water predators thrive in the deeper waters of the lake, typically holding near structure like reefs, humps, and drop-offs. While they can be caught throughout the year, the best fishing often occurs during the colder months, when they move closer to shore. Trolling with spoons, flasher/fly combinations, or tube baits near the bottom is a common and effective technique. Downriggers are essential for reaching the depths where Lake Trout reside. Jigging with heavy spoons or blade baits can also be productive, especially when targeting fish holding tight to structure. The area around the Kenosha Reef is a known hotspot. Be prepared for cold weather conditions and always prioritize safety when fishing on Lake Michigan during the winter months.
