Largemouth Bass

Iona, Idaho, provides some accessible largemouth bass fishing, although it may not be the state's most well-known bass destination. Several smaller ponds and sloughs in the area, often connected to the Snake River plain irrigation system, can hold decent populations of bass. These smaller waters warm up quickly in the summer, making June through August ideal for targeting largemouth. Look for fish around weed beds, docks, and other shoreline structure. Topwater lures can be very effective in the early morning and late evening. A practical tip is to explore the smaller, less-pressured waters. These ponds often have limited access, so be sure to respect private property and obtain permission where necessary. While trophy-sized bass are rare, you can expect to find fish in the 1-3 pound range, providing a fun and convenient fishing experience close to town.
