Largemouth Bass

If you're looking to hook into some largemouth bass in northern Idaho, Sandpoint offers some surprisingly good opportunities. Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho's largest lake, is the main draw, but don't overlook the sloughs and backwaters connected to the Pend Oreille River. These quieter areas often hold warmer water and more vegetation, making them prime bass habitat. The best time to target largemouth here is during the late spring and early summer spawning season, and again in the fall as they fatten up for winter. Try working weedless lures around submerged vegetation and docks. A local tip: check out the areas around Hope, Idaho, on the east side of Lake Pend Oreille; the shallower bays there can be especially productive. Be aware that Pend Oreille can be a large and unpredictable lake, so always check the weather forecast before heading out. The bass here aren't generally giants, but the scenic beauty makes for a memorable fishing experience.
