Largemouth Bass

Chicagoland bass anglers, don't overlook the Largemouth Bass fishing opportunities in and around Chicago Ridge. While Lake Michigan gets a lot of attention, the smaller lakes, ponds, and forest preserve lagoons scattered throughout the area can hold some surprisingly good fish. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass are more active in cooler water. During the summer, focus on early mornings and late evenings to beat the heat and find the fish in shallower cover. For a local tip, check out the lagoons within the Cook County Forest Preserves – many are easily accessible from shore and offer decent bass fishing. Try fishing weed edges and submerged structure with Texas-rigged worms or spinnerbaits. The bass in these smaller waters tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different presentations to see what they're hitting. Remember to check local regulations regarding size and creel limits, as they can vary from lake to lake.
