Largemouth Bass

Harmon, Illinois, and the surrounding area offer decent largemouth bass fishing, primarily in smaller lakes, ponds, and sections of the Rock River. While you won't find sprawling reservoirs here, the intimate setting of these waters can provide a unique and rewarding experience. Spring is the prime time, with bass moving shallow to spawn. Target weed beds and lily pads with spinnerbaits and soft plastics. Summer can be tougher, but early mornings and late evenings can still produce results. A local tip: many of these smaller lakes and ponds are best fished from a kayak or canoe, allowing you to access areas that are difficult to reach from shore. Be mindful of private property and respect posted signs. The bass population in these smaller waters tends to be healthy, with good numbers of fish in the 1-3 pound range. Don't be surprised if you hook into a larger fish, as some of these overlooked spots can hold some real surprises. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the fishery for future anglers.
