Largemouth Bass

Tinley Park boasts several ponds and smaller lakes that can provide surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing. While Lake Sedgewick is popular, don't overlook the smaller, unnamed ponds scattered throughout the forest preserves and parks. These often receive less pressure and can hold some chunky bass. Spring (pre-spawn) and fall are the peak seasons. In spring, target shallow weedy areas with spinnerbaits or crankbaits. As the water warms, switch to soft plastics like Texas-rigged worms or creature baits around submerged structure. A local tip: many of these ponds have limited shoreline access, so consider using a kayak or float tube to reach less accessible areas. Bass in these smaller waters tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different presentations to see what they're hitting on any given day. Largemouth in the 1-3 pound range are common, with the occasional bigger fish showing up.
