Largemouth Bass

While Westchester isn't exactly known as a bass fishing mecca, some surprisingly decent Largemouth Bass fishing can be found in the local forest preserve lakes and ponds. These smaller, often overlooked bodies of water can hold some real gems. Look for bass around structure like fallen trees, docks (where permitted), and weed edges. Early morning and late evening are generally the best times to fish, especially during the warmer months. Plastic worms, crankbaits, and topwater lures can all be effective. A local tip: many of these ponds are accessible by foot, making them ideal for bank fishing. However, be mindful of the regulations regarding boat use (many only allow non-motorized boats). The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different lure presentations until you find what they're hitting. Don't be afraid to downsize your presentation if the fish are pressured.
