Largemouth Bass

For Largemouth Bass anglers visiting La Crosse, Indiana, the numerous small lakes and ponds in the surrounding countryside are your best bet. While there aren't any massive reservoirs nearby, these smaller bodies of water can hold some surprisingly chunky bass. Spring is the peak season, especially during the pre-spawn and spawn when bass are aggressively feeding in the shallows. Look for them around lily pads, weed beds, and submerged timber. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are all effective choices. Summer can still produce, but you'll need to fish deeper and target areas with shade and cover. Public access can be limited on some of these smaller lakes, so be sure to do your research and obtain permission if necessary. A local tip: many of these lakes are relatively shallow, so a weedless presentation is essential to avoid snags.
