Largemouth Bass

Elk Falls, Kansas, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, especially considering its small size. The Elk River and nearby Elk City Reservoir are the main draws. Elk City Reservoir is known for its flooded timber and rocky points, perfect for targeting bass with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass move shallow to spawn and feed aggressively before winter. A local tip: Focus on the coves and creek channels in the upper reaches of the reservoir during the spawn. Also, the old Highway 99 bridge crossing provides excellent structure. Expect to find bass in the 2-4 pound range, but larger fish are definitely present. The river itself holds smaller, but feisty, bass, particularly around fallen trees and undercut banks. Wading the river can be productive, especially with topwater lures during the early morning or late evening.
