Largemouth Bass

Galesburg, Kansas, may be a small town, but it's surrounded by some decent largemouth bass fishing. Local farm ponds and strip pits hold good populations of bass, offering anglers a chance to land quality fish. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn, making them more accessible. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics are all effective during this period. Summer can be tougher, but fishing early and late in the day around submerged structure can still produce. Many of the ponds are on private land, so always seek permission before fishing. The Verdigris River also runs nearby and can be productive for bass, especially around downed trees and rocky areas. A canoe or kayak can be helpful for accessing these areas. Focus on areas where the river bends or narrows, as these often hold the most fish.
