Largemouth Bass

Little River, Kansas, offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing in its smaller lakes and ponds, as well as the nearby Little Arkansas River. These waters provide a more intimate fishing experience than larger reservoirs. Spring and early summer are particularly productive, as bass move shallow to spawn. Target weed beds, fallen timber, and rocky points with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics. For a local edge, try fishing the smaller, less pressured ponds on private land (with permission, of course). These often hold some surprisingly large bass. The Little Arkansas River itself can be good for bass, but be prepared for some current and varying water clarity. The bass in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different lure presentations until you find what they're hitting. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the quality of the fishery.
