Largemouth Bass

Oak Hill, Kansas, while not a huge metropolis, is within striking distance of some decent largemouth bass fishing. Several smaller lakes and ponds dot the landscape, offering a more intimate fishing experience than larger reservoirs. While specific names of productive ponds aren't always widely advertised, exploring public access areas and farm ponds (with permission, of course!) can yield results. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Target weedy areas and submerged structure with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, or soft plastics. Fall can also be productive as the bass feed up before winter. The largemouth in these smaller waters tend to be opportunistic feeders. Local tip: Pay attention to water clarity. If the water is clear, switch to more natural-looking baits and lighter line. Remember to always practice catch and release to maintain a healthy population.
