Largemouth Bass

If you're heading to Hindman, Kentucky, for largemouth bass, you're in for some classic Appalachian fishing. The area's small lakes and rivers, like Carr Creek Lake, offer surprisingly good bass fishing. Carr Creek Lake, in particular, is known for its clear water and submerged timber, which provide excellent habitat. Spring and fall are prime times; the bass are most active as the water warms or cools. For a local tip, try fishing the points and coves early in the morning or late in the evening. A lot of anglers have success with spinnerbaits and crankbaits around the submerged structure. Public access is available at the Carr Creek State Park boat ramp, but be aware that water levels can fluctuate, so check conditions before you go. The largemouth in these waters tend to be aggressive, but they can also be finicky, so experiment with different presentations. Don't overlook the smaller feeder creeks that flow into the lake; these can be bass magnets, especially after a rain.
