Just outside of Louisville, Houston Acres offers a quieter alternative for largemouth bass anglers. While it may not boast the sprawling reservoirs of other Kentucky locations, the smaller lakes and ponds in the area can hold some surprisingly good fish. Private lakes are common, so gaining permission is key, but some smaller public access points exist. Focus on structure like docks, fallen trees, and weed beds. Spring is the peak season as bass move shallow to spawn, but the fall can also be productive as they fatten up for winter. A Texas-rigged worm or a spinnerbait are reliable choices. Local anglers often have success with topwater lures during the early morning and late evening hours. The bass in these smaller waters can be sensitive to fishing pressure, so a stealthy approach can make a big difference.
