Looking to tangle with some Louisiana largemouth? Head to the Many area, home to the legendary Toledo Bend Reservoir. This massive lake is renowned for producing trophy bass. The key to success here is understanding the seasonal patterns. Spring is, of course, prime time for spawning bass, so focus on shallow water with vegetation or timber. As the water warms, bass will move deeper, relating to structure such as points, humps, and creek channels. Fall can also be excellent as bass feed up for the winter. Local tip: Toledo Bend is known for its hydrilla, so learn to fish around it. Carolina rigs, Texas rigs, and lipless crankbaits are all effective. Also, be aware that Toledo Bend can get crowded, especially on weekends, so plan accordingly. Launching from Cypress Bend Park offers excellent access to prime fishing areas.
