Largemouth Bass

Head to New Iberia, Louisiana, and you'll find excellent largemouth bass fishing in the heart of Cajun Country. The Atchafalaya Basin, a vast network of swamps, bayous, and lakes, offers a unique and challenging environment for targeting bass. Spring is the peak season, as the bass move shallow to spawn amidst the cypress trees and submerged vegetation. Focus on areas with lily pads, hydrilla, and any kind of structure you can find. Fall is also a great time as the water cools and the fish become more active. A local tip: Utilize a weedless presentation such as a Texas-rigged worm or a frog imitation, as the thick vegetation can make it difficult to fish with other lures. The bass here are known for their aggressive strikes and strong fights, often burying themselves in the cover. Expect to find plenty of 2-4 pounders, with the occasional fish exceeding 6 pounds. Access to the Atchafalaya Basin is available through several public boat launches around New Iberia, including those near Lake Fausse Pointe State Park.
