Largemouth Bass

Chesapeake City offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, primarily in the freshwater reaches of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal and its associated tributaries. While the canal itself experiences tidal influence, the upper sections and connecting creeks provide classic largemouth habitat. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass move into shallower water to spawn or feed before winter. Look for structure like submerged timber, bridge pilings, and weed beds. A local tip: focus your efforts near the canal's edges during periods of lower boat traffic, as the wake from larger vessels can temporarily disrupt the bass. The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures, from crankbaits to soft plastics, can be effective. Public access is available at several points along the canal, but be mindful of private property and designated fishing areas.
