Largemouth Bass

Kent County, Maryland, offers excellent largemouth bass fishing, and Chestertown serves as a great base. The Chester River is the main draw, providing tidal freshwater habitat that bass love. Target submerged structure, lily pads, and fallen trees along the shoreline, especially in the creeks and backwaters off the main river channel. Spring and fall are prime times, as bass move into shallower water to spawn or feed aggressively before winter. Summer can be productive early and late in the day. A local tip: Pay attention to the tides. Bass activity often increases during periods of moving water. Public access is available at the Chestertown waterfront, and several smaller boat ramps dot the river's edge. Be aware that the Chester River can get quite weedy in the summer, so weedless lures are essential. The bass here tend to be chunky, owing to the abundant forage.
