Largemouth Bass

Hillsboro, Maryland, and the surrounding Eastern Shore offer some excellent largemouth bass fishing in its many creeks, rivers, and ponds. The tidal nature of the waterways creates unique fishing conditions, with bass often relating to structure and cover that changes with the tide. Spring is a fantastic time to target bass as they move shallow to spawn. Look for them around lily pads, grass beds, and submerged timber. Summer can be productive as well, but you'll need to adjust your tactics to fish deeper or during periods of lower light. A local tip is to explore the Tuckahoe River and its tributaries; many of these areas offer good access and relatively unpressured fishing. The bass in this region are known for their aggressive strikes, so using topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits can be very effective. Many anglers find success with flipping and pitching soft plastics around heavy cover. Be sure to check the tidal charts before heading out to plan your fishing around the optimal tidal flow.
