Largemouth Bass

Hurlock, Maryland, offers some excellent Largemouth Bass fishing in the freshwater ponds and rivers of Dorchester County. The Nanticoke River and its associated creeks and impoundments are your best bet. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as bass are actively feeding before and after the summer heat. Look for bass around submerged timber, lily pads, and other shoreline vegetation. Flipping and pitching soft plastics into heavy cover is a proven tactic. Consider using spinnerbaits or crankbaits to cover more water. A popular access point is the public boat ramp on the Nanticoke River near Hurlock. Be aware that the water can be stained, so using lures with good vibration or bright colors is often effective. A local tip: Pay attention to the water level. During periods of heavy rain, bass will often move closer to the shoreline. Also, the Nanticoke is known for its healthy population of pickerel, so don't be surprised if you hook into one.
