Largemouth Bass

Sharpsburg, Maryland, nestled in the heart of Civil War history, also offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing. The Potomac River and its backwaters provide a diverse habitat for these predators. Target areas with submerged structure, rocky outcroppings, and weed beds. Spring and fall are traditionally the best times, as the bass are more active during these cooler periods. During the spring spawn, focus on the shallows near cover. In the fall, as the water cools, the bass will often move into deeper water. Consider using crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastic worms to entice strikes. A local tip: the boat ramp at Burnside Bridge is a popular access point, but can get crowded on weekends. Exploring the less-traveled sections of the river can pay off. The bass in this area can be quite aggressive, and you might even hook into a few smallmouth bass as well. Be sure to check the Maryland DNR regulations for the Potomac River before fishing.
