Largemouth Bass

Diamondhead, Mississippi offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, primarily in the freshwater canals and interconnected lakes that weave through the community. These aren't sprawling, deep-water reservoirs, but rather a network of smaller, shallower bodies of water that warm up quickly. Spring is undoubtedly the prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Focus on the canal edges, particularly around docks, submerged vegetation, and any areas with structure. A Texas-rigged worm or a shallow-running crankbait can be deadly. Another good time to target bass is during the fall, as they fatten up before winter. Local tip: Access is generally good from various points within Diamondhead, but be mindful of private property. Many residents fish right from their backyards, so be respectful. The water can get stained after heavy rains, so adjust your lure colors accordingly – darker colors or baits with rattles often work best in murky conditions. The bass here tend to be scrappy fighters, but not necessarily huge; a five-pounder is a good catch.
