Largemouth Bass

If you're chasing largemouth bass in Mississippi, consider Montrose. This area, nestled in the southeastern part of the state, offers a few smaller lakes and rivers that hold some overlooked bass. The Chickasawhay River is a good starting point. It winds through the region and provides plenty of structure for bass to ambush prey. Look for fallen trees, submerged vegetation, and creek mouths. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass are more active during the spawn and pre-winter feeding frenzy. A local tip: target the areas around the Highway 15 bridge crossing the Chickasawhay. There's decent bank access there, and the structure around the bridge pilings can hold fish. Also, remember that the bass in these smaller waterways can be a bit more finicky, so experiment with different lures and presentations. Don't be afraid to downsize your baits and use lighter line.
