Largemouth Bass

For largemouth bass anglers, the area around Shannon, Mississippi, offers some productive freshwater fishing opportunities. While not necessarily a renowned trophy bass destination, the smaller lakes, ponds, and creeks in the region hold good numbers of bass that are eager to bite. Look to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and its associated backwaters for some of the best potential. Spring is undoubtedly the peak season, as bass move shallow to spawn. Target areas with vegetation, laydowns, and shallow cover. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all effective choices. During the hotter summer months, focus on deeper water and shady areas. Early morning and late evening fishing can be particularly productive. A helpful hint: local anglers often have success using Texas-rigged worms around submerged structure. Remember that many of these smaller waters are best accessed by smaller boats or kayaks, so plan accordingly. This area provides a great opportunity to enjoy a relaxed day of bass fishing away from the crowds.
