Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing near Highlands, New Jersey, presents some excellent opportunities within a short drive. While not directly in town, nearby freshwater bodies like Swimming River Reservoir and Deal Lake offer good bass habitat. Spring is prime time, as bass move shallow to spawn. Look for them around submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen trees. Summer can also be productive, especially early mornings and late evenings. Topwater lures, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all effective. Fall sees another surge in activity as bass feed heavily before winter. For the Swimming River Reservoir, launching from the public access point on either end of the reservoir can be productive. Be aware of weed growth, especially during the summer months, and adjust your presentation accordingly. Deal Lake offers more bank fishing opportunities and can be good for smaller bass. Always check local regulations regarding size and bag limits before heading out.
