Largemouth Bass

While Biltmore Forest itself is primarily residential, its proximity to the French Broad River and numerous smaller lakes and ponds offers opportunities for largemouth bass fishing. The French Broad can be challenging but holds some quality fish, especially in the calmer sections and backwaters. Spring and fall are the most productive times. Focus on areas with structure like fallen trees, rocky outcroppings, and weed beds. Plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are all effective. Many of the smaller lakes and ponds are privately owned, so access can be limited. However, there are some public access points along the French Broad River, including near some of the parks downstream. Be aware that the river can fluctuate rapidly depending on rainfall, so check water levels before you go. The bass in the French Broad tend to be a bit more pressured than in some other areas, so finesse tactics can often be effective.
