Largemouth Bass

Brunswick County, North Carolina, boasts some fantastic largemouth bass fishing. The Cape Fear River and its network of creeks and ponds provide diverse habitats that support a healthy bass population. The spring spawning season is legendary, with aggressive fish readily hitting topwater lures. Fall is another excellent time, as bass fatten up before winter. A local's secret is to target the lily pads and vegetation along the edges of Town Creek, especially early in the morning or late in the evening. Public boat access is available at several points along the Cape Fear River, but be aware of strong currents and boat traffic. The largemouth here can be surprisingly large, with some real lunkers exceeding 8 pounds, so be sure to bring your A-game and sturdy tackle.
