Largemouth Bass

If you're looking for largemouth bass in northeastern North Carolina, the waters around Elizabeth City offer some excellent opportunities. The Pasquotank River and its tributaries are prime locations, offering a mix of shallow, vegetated areas and deeper channels that bass love. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target largemouth here, as the fish are more active during these periods. During the spring spawn, focus on shallow, protected areas with plenty of cover. In the fall, as the water cools, bass will often move into deeper water near structure. A local tip: the Dismal Swamp Canal, easily accessible from multiple points, can be surprisingly productive. The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures and techniques can be effective. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all good choices. Be aware that the water can be stained, so brighter colors may be more effective. The largemouth in this area are known for their aggressive strikes, so be ready for a fight!
