Largemouth Bass

Kenansville, North Carolina, offers some excellent Largemouth Bass fishing opportunities in its various ponds, rivers, and creeks. The Northeast Cape Fear River, which flows near Kenansville, holds a healthy population of largemouth, as do many of the smaller farm ponds scattered throughout the county. Spring (March-May) is a prime time to target spawning bass in the shallows, while fall (September-November) sees bass actively feeding to prepare for winter. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, cypress trees, and other structure. Local anglers often have success with spinnerbaits, plastic worms, and crankbaits. A local tip: many of the smaller ponds are accessible with permission from landowners, so it's worth asking around. The Northeast Cape Fear River can be accessed via several boat ramps in the area, but be mindful of shallow water and submerged obstacles.
