Largemouth Bass

If you're looking for largemouth bass in eastern North Carolina, the waters around Mesic offer some excellent opportunities. The area is intersected by several creeks and rivers flowing into the Pamlico River, creating a network of prime bass habitat. Look for submerged structure, lily pads, and creek mouths, especially in the spring and fall. Largemouth are active in these waters from March through May as they spawn and again in the fall as water temperatures cool. One tip for fishing this area is to access the creeks via the public boat ramps on the Pamlico River and use your electronics to locate submerged timber and drop-offs. The bass here aren't pressured as heavily as in some of the larger reservoirs, so don't be afraid to experiment with different lures and presentations. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits are popular choices, but a Texas-rigged worm can also be deadly. Be aware of changing water levels due to tides and wind, which can significantly impact bass behavior.
