Largemouth Bass

Pantego, North Carolina, nestled near the Albemarle Sound, provides a unique setting for chasing largemouth bass. The diverse ecosystem of canals, creeks, and the nearby Pungo River creates ideal habitat for bass to thrive. Spring is a phenomenal time to fish, as the bass move shallow to spawn, but the fall can also produce excellent results as they fatten up for winter. Focus your efforts on areas with cypress trees, submerged vegetation, and docks. Given the brackish influence in some areas, consider using lures that imitate baitfish common to both fresh and slightly salty environments. A local tip: many of the canals are accessible by boat, but be mindful of shallow water and submerged obstacles. Also, the Pungo River offers excellent opportunities, but be aware of the wind, which can pick up quickly. The bass in this region are known for their aggressive strikes, so be ready for a good fight!
