Largemouth Bass

Cheriton, Virginia, and the Eastern Shore offer some excellent opportunities for largemouth bass fishing, particularly in the numerous creeks and impoundments that dot the landscape. These waterways, often overlooked, provide a unique fishing experience away from the crowds. Spring and early summer are the most productive times, as the bass are actively spawning and feeding. Anglers should focus on shallow, vegetated areas, using lures such as spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics. A local tip is to target areas with tidal influence, as the changing tides can concentrate baitfish and trigger feeding activity. Public access to many of these creeks can be limited, so scouting beforehand is recommended. Consider launching a kayak or canoe for a more intimate fishing experience. The largemouth bass in this region are known for their aggressive strikes, but can also be finicky, so be prepared to experiment with different presentations. Expect to catch bass in the 1-4 pound range, with the occasional larger fish exceeding 5 pounds.
