Largemouth Bass

Claremont, Virginia, nestled along the James River, is a fantastic location for Largemouth Bass fishing. The Chickahominy River, a major tributary of the James, is renowned for its healthy bass population and diverse habitat. The backwaters, creeks, and lily pads offer ideal ambush points for largemouth. Spring and fall are peak seasons, with pre-spawn activity in March/April and a fall feeding frenzy as water temperatures cool. For the Chickahominy, consider launching from one of the public ramps near Walkers Dam, and focus on the lily pads and submerged timber with spinnerbaits or Texas-rigged worms. The bass here can be surprisingly aggressive, but also structure-oriented, so pay attention to your electronics. Also, be aware of tidal influences in the lower reaches of the river, as it can significantly affect bass behavior and location.
