Largemouth Bass

Duffield, Virginia, provides access to some fantastic largemouth bass fishing in the southwestern part of the state. The Clinch River, and nearby impoundments like South Holston Lake (though a bit of a drive), offer excellent opportunities. Spring is a phenomenal time to target bass as they move shallow to spawn. Fall is another prime time, as they feed heavily before winter. In the Clinch River, focus on areas with current breaks, such as eddies behind rocks and fallen trees. For South Holston, look for submerged structure and points. Soft plastics like senkos and creature baits are effective in the river, while crankbaits and spinnerbaits can be productive in the lake. Be aware that the Clinch River can be rocky and wading can be challenging, so wear appropriate footwear. Also, check water levels before you go, as heavy rains can make the river unfishable. The largemouth in this region are known for being aggressive, especially in the river, and the cooler waters often produce fish with good coloration.
