Largemouth Bass

If you're chasing Largemouth Bass in southeastern Virginia, Ivor offers some excellent freshwater opportunities. The local ponds and creeks, many connected to the Blackwater River system, hold good populations of bass, often overlooked compared to larger, more publicized fisheries. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Target the shallows with spinnerbaits and soft plastics around submerged vegetation and cypress trees. Fall is also productive as the fish feed aggressively before winter; crankbaits and lipless lures can be effective then. A local tip: many of the smaller ponds are accessible from the roadside, but be respectful of private property. Look for public access points along Route 460 and Route 616 to find hidden gems. The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so don't be afraid to experiment with lure presentations.
