Largemouth Bass

Head to La Crosse, Virginia, and you'll find opportunities for largemouth bass in the numerous lakes and ponds that dot the landscape. While not a widely publicized destination, these smaller bodies of water can offer secluded and productive bass fishing. Lake Gaston, a larger reservoir nearby, is also an option. Spring and fall are the prime times to target bass, as they move into shallower water to spawn or feed before winter. In the spring, focus on shallow, weedy areas and spawning beds. In the fall, target points, drop-offs, and creek channels as bass fatten up for the colder months. A local trick is to try fishing topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening, especially around lily pads or other vegetation. Access to some of the smaller ponds may require permission from landowners, so be sure to do your research beforehand. Lake Gaston has numerous public access points and boat ramps.
