Largemouth Bass

For largemouth bass anglers visiting the Othello area, Potholes Reservoir is the place to be. This expansive body of water, part of the Columbia Basin Project, provides excellent habitat for largemouth, with plenty of submerged vegetation, rocky structure, and fluctuating water levels. The best time to target largemouth here is during the spring spawning season and again in the fall as they feed heavily before winter. During the summer months, focus on fishing early and late in the day to avoid the heat. A popular local tactic is to use weedless lures and fish them slowly through the thick vegetation. Be aware that the water levels in Potholes Reservoir can fluctuate significantly, impacting fish location and access points. Check current conditions before heading out. Several boat ramps provide access to the reservoir, but they can get crowded, especially on weekends. Be prepared for some wind, as the open water can get choppy.
