Lingcod fishing near Sitka is a thrilling pursuit, offering the chance to tangle with these prehistoric-looking predators. The rocky reefs and kelp forests just offshore provide excellent habitat. The best time to target lingcod is generally from May through September, coinciding with their spawning season and increased activity. Focus on areas with strong currents and structure, using jigs or large swimbaits bounced along the bottom. One local trick is to use a stinger hook, as lingcod are notorious for short-striking lures. Access to these productive fishing grounds is readily available from Sitka's harbor, but be mindful of the often-challenging weather conditions and strong tides.
