Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike in the Deep River area, the Connecticut River offers some decent action. These ambush predators thrive in weedy areas and backwaters. Early spring, just after ice-out, and again in the fall as water temperatures cool, are prime times to target pike. Use large lures such as spoons, spinnerbaits, or crankbaits to attract their attention. A local's secret? Try fishing the mouths of smaller creeks that feed into the Connecticut River, especially after a rain, as this can draw in baitfish and trigger pike activity. Public access is available at several points along the river, but be aware of strong currents, especially near the bridges. Pike in this area can be surprisingly large, so be prepared with heavier tackle.
