Northern Pike

Chasing Northern Pike around Dimondale, Michigan, can be quite rewarding. The Grand River, with its weedy backwaters and slower-moving sections, provides ideal habitat for these ambush predators. Spring (April-May) just after ice-out is prime time as pike are actively feeding after the winter months. Fall (September-October) is another excellent window before the water gets too cold. Try targeting areas near submerged timber and weed edges with large spinners, spoons, or crankbaits. For boat access, the Waverly Road boat launch provides access to the Grand River. Be aware that the Grand River can have fluctuating water levels, so check conditions before you go. Local tip: Pike in this stretch of the Grand River can be quite aggressive, but they can also be wary of heavy leaders. A fluorocarbon leader of moderate strength can help you get more strikes while still providing some protection against their sharp teeth.
