Northern Pike

If you're chasing Northern Pike in Missouri, Dalton offers some decent opportunities, particularly in the smaller rivers and creeks that feed into the Missouri River. While not a pike hotspot like some northern states, these waters hold some surprisingly large fish. Focus your efforts in the early spring, right after ice-out (if any), and again in the fall as water temperatures cool. Pike will be most active during these periods, moving into shallower areas to feed and spawn. Look for areas with submerged vegetation, fallen timber, and creek mouths – these are prime ambush points. A local tip: many of the access points along these smaller rivers are gravel roads and can be challenging after heavy rain, so check local conditions before heading out. Also, be prepared for some dense brush along the banks; waders and a good pair of boots are essential. Don't be afraid to throw larger swimbaits and spoons, as the pike here are opportunistic feeders and often prefer a substantial meal.
