Northern Pike

While not a renowned northern pike hotspot, Fayette, Missouri, and the surrounding area offer limited opportunities to target these toothy predators. Your best bet is to focus on the Missouri River and its backwaters. While pike populations are not high, they are present. Early spring, just after ice-out (if applicable), and late fall are the most promising times. Pike will often stage near creek mouths or areas with submerged vegetation as water temperatures change. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective choices. Local tip: Target areas with current breaks and slack water near the main river channel. Be sure to use a steel leader to prevent bite-offs. Pike in this area are typically smaller than those found in more northern states, but a lucky angler might find a decent fish. Check local regulations regarding size and possession limits, as they may differ from other species.
