Northern Pike

Northern Pike aren't the first species that comes to mind when you think of Missouri, but the Lake of the Ozarks near Gravois Mills offers a unique opportunity to target them. While not as abundant as other species, the lake holds a decent population of pike, particularly in the cooler months. Spring and early summer, as the water warms, are prime times to find them in weedy bays and around submerged timber. Large spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and crankbaits are all effective lures. A good strategy is to focus on the upper ends of the lake's arms where water clarity might be slightly lower. Public access is available, but using a boat to cover more ground will significantly increase your chances of success. Be prepared for a surprise, as these pike can be aggressive and put up a great fight in the open water of the Ozarks.
