Northern Pike

While not a primary destination for Northern Pike, Urbana, Missouri, provides access to waters where you might just hook into one of these toothy predators. Truman Lake, being the dominant water feature in the area, is the best bet. While largemouth bass are more prevalent, pike can be found in the lake's weedy areas and along creek channels, especially in the upper reaches of the reservoir. Spring and fall are the most productive times to target them. Focus on areas with submerged timber or weed beds, as these provide ambush points for pike. A helpful tip: trolling large crankbaits or spinnerbaits along weed lines can be an effective technique. Pike in Truman Lake are not as numerous as in more northern waters, so consider it a bonus catch while targeting other species. However, the potential for a trophy pike is always there, so be prepared with the appropriate tackle, including a wire leader.
