If you're after northern pike near Akron, your best bet is to explore the larger reservoirs and lakes in the surrounding area. Nimisila Reservoir, part of the Portage Lakes system, is known to hold some decent-sized pike. Look for weedy areas, submerged timber, and points where pike ambush prey. Spring and fall are generally the most productive times. As water temperatures rise in the summer, pike tend to move deeper. Large spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and swimbaits are effective lures. Wire leaders are a must to prevent bite-offs. Some anglers also have success with large sucker minnows fished under a bobber. Many access points are available around Nimisila Reservoir, including boat ramps and shoreline fishing areas.
