Northern Pike

Targeting northern pike near Barnhill, Ohio, requires a bit of exploration but can yield some exciting results. Focus your attention on the backwaters and weedy areas of the Tuscarawas River and its connected tributaries. These areas provide the cover and ambush points that pike prefer. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target pike, as they are active after spawning. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and jerkbaits are effective lures. A good starting point is to explore the slower-moving sections of the river near Zoar. Be prepared for some thick vegetation, so weedless lures are a must. Pike in this region aren't known for their enormous size, but you can still find some fish in the 30-inch range. Remember to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have incredibly sharp teeth.
