Northern Pike

Pike enthusiasts around Broadview Heights will find their best shot at connecting with these toothy predators a bit outside of town. While not a hotspot, some of the larger reservoirs and rivers within an hour's drive, like the Cuyahoga River and some of the deeper sections of the Portage Lakes, can hold pike. Early spring, just after ice-out, and late fall when water temperatures drop are your best bets. Pike are ambush predators, so focus on areas with plenty of cover, such as submerged timber, weed beds, and drop-offs. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lures. A steel leader is a must to prevent bite-offs. Be aware that pike fishing in this region can be challenging, requiring patience and persistence.
