Northern Pike

Pike fishing around Cloverdale, Ohio, can be a rewarding pursuit if you know where to look. While not a premier pike destination, the Blanchard River and its connected waterways offer pockets of opportunity. Focus on areas with dense vegetation, submerged timber, and creek inlets. Spring, immediately after ice-out, is a prime time as pike move into shallow, weedy areas to spawn. Fall, as water temperatures cool, is another excellent window. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are proven pike lures. Don't be afraid to experiment with bright colors and erratic retrieves to trigger strikes. However, be prepared for bank fishing as boat access can be limited in certain areas. Check water levels before heading out, as heavy rains can make the river difficult to fish.
